Meet: Carla's Cleaning

I first worked with Carla's Cleaning last August when she took care of a Down the Cape Concierge guest. The request was out of her service area and very labor intensive but they did a fantastic job. The guest was thrilled with the cleaning and commented on how efficient and detailed the service team was. I want to introduce you to Carla Assis, owner of Carla's Cleaning Service.

What did you do for prior to starting Carla’s Cleaning Service?

So before starting Carla’s cleaning, I was actually a high school student. I helped my mom part time cleaning homes. After I graduated High School I attended two years at Cape Cod Community College and still worked part time helping my mom.

How did you get the idea to start your business?

My plans were to get a degree in Radiology and in order to have done that I would have had to go off Cape to study. At that time, I was getting a divorce and having a child; to study full-time off Cape, just wouldn't work. I decided to take the cleaning business full time instead. Since then, I have built a very successful business that I have been running for 26 years.

What methods do you use to promote Carla’s Cleaning Service?

To promote Carla’s Cleaning, I use advertisements on Google Ads, Yelp, Instagram and Facebook. And of course, I’m blessed that word of mouth works the best, being referred to others is my best advertising!

Saturday turn around service is always the busiest time of the week for any cleaning service on Cape Cod. What is your schedule like on a Saturday during peak season?

Indeed it is the busiest! I’m actually busy all week long getting ready for the big day. It's a full week of preparation making sure first of all I have enough staff for Saturday because the amount of houses to clean can increase. Second, I type each teams schedule arranging it per traveling time, so the team does not waste time going back and forth. During the week, my office has to be stocked up with cleaning products and all materials needed. On the actual day, everyone meets me at my office and they collect their materials and off they go. I’m always close by monitoring their work and on call for any emergency they come across because every house has to be ready by 3:00.

Over the years I'm sure you have worked in a variety of short term rentals. Can you give any helpful tips to help improve the operation of a vacation property?

I guess the #1 is that I always encourage my clients to do is to, “Have a Spring cleaning done!” prior to the rental season. This is crucial and so important to help the cleaning flow going in between rentals. And of course, clutter in the house does not help. Keep the decorations simple.

What do you do during the off-season? Tell us where you like to travel.

Off season we still work, we are open year round and my number one goal is still to have as much work as we do in the summer or as close as possible ;)

I do take vacations with the family and we like to go where is hot like Mexico for example and we do like to go skiing too, the kids love doing that.
